If you’re anything like my family, there are probably a lot of subscription services that you are subscribed to right now. From Netflix to Amazon Prime to Hello Fresh, we use subscription services to make our life a little bit easier. It takes a lot of stress off the table to know that there will always be a movie to unwind with at the end of the day, to not have to pay for shipping, or to not have to plan for a few meals per week. Subscription services make life a little bit easier so we can focus on the things that are most important to us.
Subscription services themselves aren’t new, but they are certainly expanding into areas that we have never seen before. That’s what we are seeing with services that are geared toward seniors. With new technology products, delivery services, and transportation options opening up, seniors are being targeted for subscription services like never before.
This can be a very good thing in some cases because it opens up a lot of options. But these things aren’t for everyone. In fact, we’ve found a few services that just didn’t work for us. We’ve canceled many over the years, sometimes forgetting that we even had some and paying much more than necessary because it took a few months longer than it should have to get rid of it. These services didn’t fit in with our family’s goals. It makes sense that some services won’t be right for everyone. And it’s going to be the same with your family, even with subscription services that are geared toward the elderly. Not everything is going to be helpful.
Knowing what your family needs is a good place to start. Trial and error can also be of help, if it’s not an issue to pay for a service for a month or two before you realize that it isn’t going to work out. It’s okay to try things out, especially when they have an overall low impact on quality of life like a subscription service does.
Some other things have a much bigger impact on someone’s quality of life, such as senior care. For example, if you are paying for a nursing home and it isn’t the right fit for your loved one, this is something that you would want to rectify as soon as possible. Your older parent could either be transferred to a facility that’s a better fit, or you could find another type of service that will be a bigger benefit, such as something with less intensive help.
That’s why in-home care can be so beneficial. It is a service that provides senior care and the assistance that comes along with it, but in a much less intrusive manner than what a nursing home provides. Rather than uproot a loved one and move them into a care facility, care is provided for them right where they live. Care comes to you, rather than you going to the care. And like any other service, it might not be right for everyone. However, for those that would benefit from something like this, it provides a great option that can drastically improve quality of life.
It’s never too late to reevaluate the type of assistance that a loved one is receiving. If you’d like to learn more about in-home care, please feel free to get in touch with us today.
