When most people plan for their retirement, they don’t take into account the fact that there’s a good chance that they will not be in good health for at least several years between the time that they retire and the time that they pass away. Unfortunately, planning for retirement is already really tough. Adding the concept of care on top of everything else that needs to get down as one nears their retirement years can be completely overwhelming.
But just because something might be overwhelming doesn’t mean that it’s unimportant. Unfortunately, the overwhelmingness of it all scares people off or prevents them from taking it into account altogether. This can put someone at a huge disadvantage as they age.
The obvious solution here is that these tough topics should be addressed sooner rather than later. Whether it’s a financial topic, a health or care one, or something else. The sooner these things are planned for, the easier arriving on an acceptable final solution will be. It doesn’t guarantee a favorable outcome or eliminate surprises, but it does tilt the odds into your favor.
Our latter years are part of our retirement years. On a surface level, this is a very basic observation. But it’s one that many people either don’t think of or don’t want to think of. Planning for senior care, hospice care, and end of life issues should not be overlooked just because it’s unpleasant. Unfortunately, it’s something that we all must deal with. The sooner these things are addressed, the more likely resolution will be.
Helping a loved one navigate this world can be tough. When finances are tight it’s even more difficult. But even if there are no financial resources available, every single person deserves to have access to high quality care.
Although someone deserves great care doesn’t necessarily mean that it will be easy to find. Unfortunately, that’s one of the sad realities of the healthcare system in general. Those who have limited financial resources tend to not have the same access to quality and timely care. Great care of all types is out there, but with waiting lists and different providers accepting different types of insurance, it can often be tough to navigate things.
