The pandemic and the spotlight that it has placed on how senior citizens are treated has provided a jolt to the care industry. Many new companies are entering this line of business, but we shouldn’t expect all of them to provide the highest quality of service. This is just the nature of how businesses run.
There’s a lot of new capital moving into the senior care business. Investors and entrepreneurs have seen how severely the demographic shift is moving and cannot deny that there’s a lot of money to be made in this sector of the market. But that doesn’t mean that all care businesses are equal. It doesn’t mean that all have the same heart and compassion behind them. It doesn’t mean that all of these businesses are going to succeed.
Really, what it comes down to is whether or not the care team is providing a high quality AND that service meets a need within the community. You can run a really good business, but if no one in your area is stopping in to purchase what you’re selling, that service will fail. The internet has shrunk our world in many respects. I can go online and buy something from New York and have it arrive in the mail in a day or two. But that’s not how human services work. You can replicate some aspects of care over the computer or phone, but not the bulk of it.
A loving, in person approach is needed. People and their wellbeing is the center of this business, and if that doesn’t show, the company is going to run into problems down the road regardless of what else happens.
Running a successful company requires a unique set of skills. When it comes to caring for others, these skills must include loving other people. It’s only when the needs of seniors are placed at the forefront of everything else that a care business can succeed. Everything else that follows after is important, but for a company to succeed it must meet that first criteria. When health and wellness is on the line, a care service must place people as their number one priority.
We pride ourselves on how well we have been able to help those that we serve and for how long we’ve been able to do so. Different periods of time present different challenges when it comes to senior care, and the past year and a half has definitely been a unique challenge, not just just for us but for senior care businesses across the world. Being able to help people even when times are tough is such a privilege and we are glad to be able to continue doing so within our community.
As always, we’d love to help you and your family, too. If you have questions about care, please feel free to reach out to us. Give us a call, send us an email, or message us on Facebook or Twitter. One of our professional caregivers would love to talk more about who we are, what we do, and how that might be a benefit for your family.
