COVID-19 is hitting the care industry hard. Even as parts of the country are seeing the viruses grip on them loosen, the economic impact is still being greatly felt. In fact, many experts are indicating that the current economic model of care is not sustainable because of how many care centers are handling the situation.
One of the current discussions that is going on pertains to the type of business that’s best suited for serving seniors the best. Some believe that only large companies with corporate protections will be able to effectively serve in the future.
While this is a good argument, larger companies cannot provide the same sort of personalized attention that seniors deserve. This is why family care is so important–it allows the elderly to stay in their home with the people that love them helping out with their daily needs. They might not have the training of a professional caregiver, but what they lack in professional training, they are able to make up for with compassion.
And this is why we are such strong advocates of in-home care. Our caregivers can’t replace the same level of love that a family member can give, but they can give the personalized touch that you would expect–and they have the training to make it even more effective. Larger companies would ultimately lose out on this approach of care. Large companies do have their benefits, but providing for the unique needs of one person isn’t one of them. Ultimately, customized care is diminished through this type of approach.
So what’s the best approach to care? That’s not an easily answered question. Out of all of this uncertainty, there is one thing that’s absolutely for certain: the need for senior care is going to keep growing. The number of elderly folk in our country keeps increasing as people live longer lives. And although this is a good thing, it also means that age-related complications are going to increase, too. Some sort of support structure is necessary to help these individuals continue to live the quality of life that they deserve. Senior care may change over the coming decades, but the need for it is only going to continue to be on the rise.
And that’s okay. We’ve seen many changes come to the care industry over the last several years and we’ve been able to roll with it, adapting our care model not just to fit the changing laws and landscape of care, but also to better serve the people that we work with. That’s why we believe that in-home care is not going to go away, but rather become more and more sought after.
