Statins tend to be the go-to type of medication for those that have high cholesterol levels. They work by targeting LDL–also called the “bad” type of cholesterol–and its production. And while they tend to be a helpful way of maintaining a healthier level of cholesterol within the body, for about 29 percent of those that take this kind of medication, they also contribute to muscle pain of various severities.
Some statin users report that the muscle pain that is created feels like the flu ”without the fever.” If you are one of those that have side effects like this, please speak with a doctor. A medical professional has the expertise and understanding to help guide you in a way where you can reap the benefits of improved health without as many of the potentially negative side effects that you might otherwise experience.
High levels of LDL are linked to poor cardiovascular health and disease. It is one of the leading causes of heart attack and stroke. Since heart disease is the number one killer in the U.S., finding effective ways to treat high cholesterol is imperative for overall health.
Statins are one of the most widely prescribed medications when it comes to helping people manage their cholesterol levels. But for some reason, they impact different people in different ways. If you are one of those that are negatively impacted by muscle pain or something else, please know that there are options out there. This is a discussion that you should have with your doctor as I’m not a medical professional. However, statins are not the only method of helping to manage cholesterol. There’s a reason why they are so widely prescribed, though. They are very effective. But just because they’re effective doesn’t necessarily mean that they are the best choice for you.
There are choices out there for health care. There isn’t always just one treatment option that works for everybody. Yes, there are methods that tend to be prioritized over others. This typically happens because they work. For example, when it comes to mental health and wellness, there are some medications that are prescribed more frequently than others. This doesn’t happen by a coincidence. Mental wellness is a complex thing, but some medications have shown that they are very effective. Because they usually work, this is where doctors usually start. And this is why statins are heavily used. They usually work. But, they’re not the only things that work. You have choices.
There are also choices out there when it comes to senior care. One size doesn’t fit all–different people have different needs.
