Recently, a study found that people who take statins are less likely to suffer a type of stroke called an intracerebral hemorrhage. This type of stroke involves bleeding in the brain and can cause difficulties and complications that aren’t always present with other types of stroke.
The team found that individuals with an average age of 76 who had been taking statins had a 6.8 percent chance of suffering from an intracerebral hemorrhage. Those that had not been taking statins had an 8.6 percent chance of suffering the same medical event. Participants had their gender and medical conditions taken into account and balanced for this study.
In other words, those that were being prescribed statins had a 17 percent lesser chance of suffering this type of stroke.
The research team published their findings in the journal, Neurology. Strokes continue to cause issues amongst seniors and research like this is necessary if advancements are going to be made in the fight against them. Hopefully, this research can help future researchers to develop better treatments of stroke and other cardiovascular events so that seniors and others are able to live longer, healthier lives.
Strokes are one of the leading causes of death amongst seniors. Cardiovascular disease in general is the number one most deadly thing when it comes to those living in the U.S. Unfortunately, even with all of the medical and health advances that we have seen over the years, heart health continues to be a major factor when it comes to senior health.
Prevention is the best way to help ensure that your family members are as healthy as possible during their retirement years. But for those that need help now, there are options. The first step is to identify what your loved one’s needs are. You should work closely with a medical professional to figure this step out.
The next step is to find a care solution that can help to fully meet those needs. There are many different choices out there, but not each of them is going to fit in with what you’re looking for.
