According to an article published recently by the American Heart Association, there will soon be a deluge of chronic health conditions present that have yet to be diagnosed.
This article was published in the AHA’s journal, Circulation. Amongst its recommendations were better access to preventive care, exercise, and more comprehensive health assessments. They hoped to accomplish this through universal health care, more awareness of public health, and increased research into health health issues. They also recommended using technology to help ensure that health issues are avoided if possible. Some of these things would be major transformations in our health system, while others would be quite easy as the technology already exists and is widely used in other areas.
Heart disease has long been one of the most dangerous issues facing people in the United States. Heart disease has been cited as the number one killer for years in the U.S. Although COVID-19 was certainly dangerous, the dangers of heart disease didn’t just go away because we were in the middle of a pandemic. In fact, heart disease may have been exacerbated for a lot of people because of issues with diet and a lack of exercise. As doctors’ offices get back in the swing of seeing patients on a more regular basis, it is obvious that these issues are going to be detected. There’s a good chance that doctors could be overloaded just like they were at the beginning of the pandemic.
Preventive care is extremely important, especially as someone gets older. Issues that could have been prevented or easily treated can become a lot more severe as someone ages. If you or a loved one have been putting off appointments, it’s time to start making those phone calls and get an idea when your doctor is able to take you in for a checkup. Many offices postponed preventive care appointments for emergency safety reasons, but this temporary accommodation was only meant to be temporary. Overall, they are necessary for prolonged health. And seniors are the most vulnerable population when it comes to this.
Medical care is separate from long term care, but they both play an important role in the overall health of someone.
