It’s important that we keep our loved ones safe, regardless of where they reside. This is true for those living under our roof and those half a world away. It’s true for our kids, grandkids, and our older loved ones. It’s impossible to think of and implement every single safety measure out there, but it is reasonable to expect each family to do what they can to care for those that need a little extra help. We teach our kids not to run out into the road, to follow preventative health measures (like brushing your teeth), and to avoid dangerous situations.
But this isn’t all there is to care. Part of it is connecting the people that we love to the right resources for their various needs. If a loved one has medical needs, finding the right doctor is important. If there are dietary concerns, ensuring that the right foods are available and prepared is necessary. If a loved one has difficulty getting around the house, finding the right devices (like a wheelchair) and ensuring that hindrances to movement throughout the house are removed is needed. As someone ages, these needs can become compounded and more pressing.
Finding care that accounts for this is important. But so is accountability. The pandemic placed restriction on nursing homes that restricted visitors, and many of the extra eyes that were looking at our older loved ones disappeared. In some cases, this put people in dangerous situations simply because the checks and balances of a public care setting disappeared. Unfortunately, social isolation can have the same impact. Involvement in the lives of the people we care about on many levels is needed to help enhance safety.
We can help you find the right team for your family’s unique needs. Each situation is a little bit different and the care that’s ideal for addressing one set of goals and health needs might be different from what another family is looking for. And there’s nothing wrong with that.
Additionally, it’s important to take into account background and ongoing trainings. The pandemic has changed how we think about senior care as a nation, and it’s important that caregivers and services are able to incorporate those changes into what they do and use the knowledge that we’ve gained for the good of the people that we help. As Maya Angelou once said, “Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better.” While there was certainly a lot of bad that came from the pandemic, we have learned that we need to be more proactive when it comes to keeping our elderly loved ones safe with whatever senior care they are using.
This is why we are always looking to improve upon the service that we provide to the families that we work with. Your loved ones deserve the very best, and we hope to help you find it. Whether it’s through one of our own in-home caregivers or through another service, we want you to have what’s best for you.
If you’re just starting your senior care journey, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We can help you get connected with the right resources during a free consultation session. We’d love to hear from you and let you know how our service–or another–might be exactly what you’ve been looking for to help your family live the best life possible.
