In Connecticut, an elder abuse hotline was recently established. The goal of this is to help detect and eliminate instances of abuse with more efficiency. This goes for all types of abuse, not just physical. Emotional, sexual, financial and neglect are all included in this.
There have long been ways to report elder abuse, but for many, they are unclear about what the best or even the most correct way to do so is. When it comes to instances of child abuse, the process has been long established in most states. Most states have mandatory reporter guidelines in place, along with a hotline and a state regulated agency that determines whether an instance is a reportable event or not. Even if someone isn’t necessarily a mandatory reporter, there is a non-mandatory reporter hotline in place in most locations so that concerned individuals can call and make a report so that the proper authorities can be informed and make a decision about whether an intervention should be made for the good of the child.
Putting something similar to this in place to help the elderly is a huge step forward when it comes to protecting all of our loved ones. It takes the guesswork out of how we can approach confronting abuse.
All over the country, people are becoming more and more aware of senior abuse. Some states, like Connecticut, are taking more extreme steps to combat it. All in all, this is a good thing. It raises awareness of how we can help our older loved ones live safer, more peaceful lives.
This is what we want for our older loved ones, right? We want them to age in the way that they want to, without having to worry about being taken advantage of, hurt, or abused. We want them to feel safe and not like they are just getting by on a moment to moment basis. Preventing the likelihood of elder abuse is one big part of making this a reality.
Putting measures in place to prevent abuse on a macro scale like what Connecticut and many other states are doing is important. But when it comes to protecting the people close to us, the people that we love, looking at the micro scale is important, too.
This is one of the reasons why we have such stringent measures in place when it comes to our employees. We require an extensive background check before we hire anyone, and then a rigorous training process to ensure that the people that we hire are both here for the right reasons and have the experience and training to take every step possible to prevent abuse from happening.
We’d love to talk more about the steps that we take to protect the people that we work with. Give us a call to set up a consultation session to discuss this further. We can outline the care that we provide, and help you determine exactly what the next steps should be to help your family get the best care possible. This service is a completely free one and comes with no obligation to you.
