A newly published study indicates that ibuprofen combined with certain other medications can cause permanent damage to the kidneys.
The team of researchers found that the combination of diuretics, renin-angiotensin system inhibitors, and ibuprofen had the potential to cause permanent damage to the kidneys. This is a combination of medications that is sometimes used to treat high blood pressure, but if this research is an indicator, there is the potential for it to do a lot of harm to the body while treating the original issue.
Not everyone that takes this combination of meds will have issues, but only those with certain biological profiles. Hopefully, more research can prevent health problems.
This research was conducted at the University of Waterloo. The research team published their findings in the journal, Mathematical Biosciences.
Certainly, this isn’t the only combination of medications that can have negative consequences. There are adverse reactions that some medications can cause, up to and including death. Medication is supposed to help, not hurt. But unfortunately, this doesn’t always happen.
Luckily, issues are usually preventable. It’s important to ensure that doctors know about all medications that you are taking. Oftentimes, confusion arises when an individual works with multiple doctors. Even though doctors have better access to information than ever before thanks to online medical charts, there are still a lot of opportunities for things to slip through the cracks. Speak with your doctor if you have more questions about this. This topic might very well save a life. And if you want to be proactive about your health and the amount of information that your health team has, ask about your region’s health information network. Odds are, there’s already a system in place for your area where doctors, hospitals, and other providers can document and share information. Your primary care physician can walk you through the process for getting enrolled in this.
Improved communication is one of the benefits of a high quality service. Although some care services will not be as professional in this area as others, one of the good things about a professionally trained caregiver is that good communication is a lot more likely to happen. When that care is provided in a one on one fashion, like what we see with in-home care, the chances of something being forgotten or overlooked are diminished significantly. A trained, professional in-home caregiver is far more likely to be able to communicate changes, needs, and concerns to applicable parties than an overwhelmed caregiver responsible for helping out multiple people at any given time.
It’s yet another benefit that comes along with in-home care. It’s yet another reason why we are such strong supporters of this method of helping out elderly folk.
