People are living longer than ever before. While this is certainly a very positive thing, there are also complications that come along with this increase in longevity. Access to high quality senior care is one of the glaring issues that will need to be faced by our society if we are going to continue to give seniors the quality of life that they deserve as they age.
For example, about 80 percent of seniors have two or more chronic health issues. Almost 100 percent of them take one or more medication on a daily basis. About 40 percent take five or more medications daily. As people age, the odds that they will have a chronic illness that requires ongoing treatment goes up. The longer someone lives, the more likely they are to have health concerns and complications surrounding those concerns. Unfortunately, even though people are living longer lives, they aren’t always living longer lives free of health issues.
In 2018, there were roughly 52 million people residing in the United States that were 65 or older. It’s estimated that if current trends continue, there will be 77 million people 65 or older in the U.S. by the year 2034. That’s a huge increase, one that marks the first time in history where there will be more elderly individuals than there are children in the country.
People grow used to living their lives the way that they want to. No one wants to have to change just because they are older. The problem with this is that age DOES make some things harder. Despite this, many types of senior care seem to not take the preservation of lifestyle into account with how care is administered.
This brings a lot of other challenges besides the one already mentioned, the main focus of this blog piece. However, the first step to resolving these potential issues in the care of our loved ones is to acknowledge them. Helping seniors to live the lifestyle that they want is an essential part of this.
Senior care can help with this. It’s designed to bridge gaps in life, like what is described above. As you probably already know though, this time isn’t just for survival. The people that you love deserve way better than this.
That’s one place where we hope to help the elderly folk in our community. In-home care should allow you and your loved one to live life the way that you want. That’s one of the main purposes of this type of care. In-home care allows seniors to stay where they are with as little disruption to their lifestyle as possible.
