It’s been a couple years since the COVID-19 interrupted all of our lives. This was a trying time for everyone and the impact still lingers today. While we are happy to have life return to mostly normal, there are some lessons that we as a society have learned. Taking a step back, looking at these lessons, and then trying to implement change for good across our lives is an important part of the rebuilding process.
Because there are a lot of things that we as a society saw happen during this time that we can fix. If we didn’t make these changes, it would be a huge missed opportunity. There was so much tragedy and hurt during this time, it would be a waste not to try and make life better in the aftermath.
How we care for seniors is first and foremost in the public eye. Many nursing homes and other facilities came under fire for doing more harm than good during the pandemic. Alternative forms of care have become more mainstream as a result.
Technology is another big area where we saw things transform during the pandemic. Yes, we saw the rise of Zoom and other video software companies for business and personal use, but there were a whole lot of other products that had been in development for quite some time that began to grow in use and popularity. The pandemic forced many of these companies to refine their products and make them more user friendly. There are a lot of different tech products that have emerged over the last few years, but all of them serve the same overall goal: to make life easier and safer for the elderly. This can include smart home software designed to detect leaks in plumbing, whether someone is getting out of bed, or even sensors in floors and carpets that can tell if someone has fallen.
These products aren’t for everyone, and some companies and products are superior to others. While they might help, not everything is going to. Please do your own research prior to investing in anything like this.
Please do not misunderstand the purpose of this post. I am not trying to diminish the negative impact that COVID-19 and the ensuing pandemic. Thousands of people lost their lives during this time. Millions of us were forced to isolate ourselves in our homes for weeks or months. Even if you never got sick or you only had mild symptoms, the toll that the pandemic had on our mental health was nothing short of devastating. This was a tough time. Even if you and your family and friends were not seriously impacted health-wise, odds are there were other difficulties that you faced. To varying degrees, we all struggled during those years.
COVID is still very much a threat for many of us. The virus looks like it is here to stay. Although many reports now say that the illness is a lot less severe than it originally was, there are many people that are still at high risk of having health complications due to the virus. Finding ways to make life better and safer is always helpful.
