India has recently been taking steps to acknowledge that effective senior care is more possible and accessible for everyone when the community as a whole comes together to help. By using the resources and skills of others, the hope is to create a better care system for the elderly in India.
Each nation has its own culture. This is part of what makes our world so great–we are all different and we all have our own ways of tackling the issues that life can throw at us. And as you might expect, some countries do not utilize technology and resources in the same way as others. In countries like India, senior care tends to be more family oriented than it is here in the U.S. Senior care takes place in the home, even if there are advanced medical needs in place. This isn’t bad or wrong, but it’s not always the best way to help. Using the resources of the community can help to give seniors more advantages when it comes to getting the most out of their senior years. It can help to increase happiness, health, and make the family stronger as a result.
The family structure is one of the most important structures that there is. The difference between care right now in the U.S. and care in other parts of the world or during different times in history is that we have other support structures in place to help where family cannot. Think about programs that are in place to help those who cannot work. Services like Medicaid, Departments of Social Service, and foster care exist all so that the underprivileged do not have to depend on the mercies of their neighborhoods. There are formalized support structures in place to help when family is not a realistic or adequate source of dependence.
Senior care steps in and helps when families or individuals no longer can provide the assistance that an elderly individual needs. Now, this isn’t the only reason why care is given, but it is the main one. Some people enter into senior care because they enjoy the social aspect of an assisted living facility, for example. But in the end, it comes down to the level of assistance that is needed to get through each day in a safe and healthy way.
Your loved one has more help waiting for them than you are probably aware of. And that’s a good thing! We’re here to help point you toward those resources. Give us a call to set up a free consultation and one of our professionally trained senior caregivers can sit down with you and your family and help you to get started planning for the senior care of a loved one. Each family and each situation is unique, and approaching care from this perspective is important. What works for one family isn’t always going to be the best choice for another. What works for those in India might not be the best fit for us here. Having options is good. We’re here to point you toward the options that will help the most.
