Many people around the world have now been vaccinated from the COVID-19 virus. But even though a lot of people have received one of the various vaccines that are now available, we really haven’t seen life resume as normal.
If you’ve been vaccinated, you’re probably wondering what has been on all of our minds lately: when will life go back to normal?
The short answer to this is that we don’t know yet. But we know that we’re closer to normalcy than we were prior to the introduction of vaccines. We still have a ways to go before life is normal, but why? If you’ve had your COVID vaccine, why must you keep waiting before you can get back to your old life?
For one, local regulations are not caught up to this yet. Although a lot of places do not mandate masks, the CDC still states that masks are necessary to increase safety to each individual, regardless of whether or not you’ve been vaccinated. Additionally, the vaccine does not guarantee that you will not get the virus. There have been documented cases of individuals getting sick with COVID. The vaccine isn’t designed to prevent the disease, but rather helps to boost the body’s immune system so that if you do get sick, your symptoms will be much less severe than they would be otherwise. The disease can still be spread even if you’ve had the vaccine.
The purpose of the vaccine isn’t to stop the immediate transmission of the disease, but rather do so over the long term. If symptoms are not as severe and the virus is not as prevalent, even the individuals that haven’t been vaccinated become much safer. This will take time to achieve though.
According to some experts, the vaccines aren’t really going to have an impact on the quality of life that we live until 70 to 80 percent of eligible individuals have received a full course of treatments. At this point, it would still be wise to wear masks, but we could conceivably begin to stop living in a semi-quarantined state like we have been.
It’s also worth noting that life might never return quite to the way that it was pre-pandemic. We might always have small elements of precautionary changes that we live with. Things like masks in crowded areas might be a permanent fixture for the rest of our lives. In some cultures, this has already become the norm. We might not like what the new reality looks like, but it’s impossible to change the situation that we all find ourselves in. The only thing we can do is to make the most of it and live as safely as possible.
Ultimately, discussions about the COVID vaccine and how to stay healthy before and after getting it should be had with your doctor. I am not a doctor and am not qualified to give you any sort of advice regarding your health. The CDC’s website is a reliable source of information regarding COVID and the vaccine. Please call your doctor to see how this impacts you and your family.
