According to a new study from the American Heart Association, there are both benefits and risks when it comes to alternative treatment methods for heart failure.
There are about six million people in the U.S. that suffer from heart failure. And according to one estimate, about 30 percent of them use some sort of alternative treatment when it comes to how they handle heart failure.
Research indicates that alternative methods do have some benefit, but also come with a lot of risk. These products and treatments are not federally regulated and this can make it tough to know what is best.
This raises a bigger question for a lot of people. With all of the “new” treatment methods out there, is there benefit in pursuing some of these things?
The answer is not a precise one, unfortunately. Just like with the study mentioned above, there is no one, easy answer that can be given when it comes to alternative treatment methods as a whole. It is really something that needs to be addressed on a case by case basis. Some of these treatments have benefits, some do not. Some are meant to help, while some are complete scams.
The team did find that yoga and Tai Chi had some benefits. The use of Omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids also showed indications of helping to improve health.
The best course of action is to consult with a medical professional. A doctor that knows your medical history and your background will be able to give you much better advice when it comes to any sort of treatment options. They will be able to point you in a direction that works best for you, especially when it comes to other health issues you might be dealing with.
The team published their findings in the journal, Circulation. Hopefully, it helps to provide a better course of action for those people who are dealing with heart failure and the health complications that result because of this.
Everyone is different when it comes to their health and their care. Not only does each individual have different needs and goals, different families and cultures have different priorities for care and these can result in major changes for how it is administered. Spiritual and cultural beliefs and practices might not seem like a major factor when it comes to things like senior care, but they should play a role in how and where it is given. Being aware of this possibility is the first step toward ensuring that these considerations are taken into account.
