We all know that some foods are better for you than others. We know that we’re supposed to eat a diet rich in fruits and vegetables and avoid excessive amounts of sugar and fat. Depending on your goals and dietary and health needs, you may have even refined the rules for a healthy diet further. You might count calories to assist with weight loss or avoid certain foods because of an allergy or intolerance.
One thing that most every diet and health expert agrees on is that fried foods are bad for you. They can increase your risk of obesity and the health issues that come along with that. New research further illustrates just how unhealthy fried foods can be for you.
In short, what they found was that the more deep fried food someone ate, the greater their risk for heart disease became. They found that your risk increases in a noticeable way for every 114 grams of fried food that is eaten per week. People that were on the higher end of the amount of fried food that was consumed were 28 percent more likely to have a major cardiac event, 22 percent more likely to have heart disease, and 37 percent more likely to suffer from heart failure than those that had a limited intake.
Although this is disturbing news for a lot of people, it should also be encouraging as it is a warning. Lowering the amount of fried foods can also help to reduce your risk in all of these areas.
This is certainly not the first study of this sort, but it does act as yet another confirmation that there are some foods you should just stay away from if you’re trying to eat healthy. Deep fried foods of any sort tend to increase the risk of heart disease. Eating them once in a while can be okay for some people, but for those that are at a higher level of risk, they should just be avoided altogether.
This current study examining the relationship between diet and heart disease was conducted by a team working for the British Medical Journal. 17 different studies were compiled, involving well over a half of a million individuals. They recently published their findings in the journal, Heart.
