Coffee is a typical morning beverage for millions, or maybe even billions, of people around the globe. I know that I can’t get through the day without a cup or two of coffee in the morning. Unfortunately, coffee doesn’t have the greatest reputation. Past studies have indicated that drinking too much coffee can lead to heart issues and increase someone’s risk of stroke and heart attack. It can lead to a lack of plasticity in blood vessels, which can lead to other cardiovascular issues, too.
But if you’re like me, there is some good news about this favorite source of caffeine. For those of us that are light to moderate coffee drinkers (meaning one to three cups per day), there are actually some benefits to drinking java. People that drink up to three cups of coffee per day–and not more–are actually at a lower risk of suffering from fatal heart disease and stroke than the average member of the population.
This data comes from a study conducted by the European Society of Cardiology and used data found in the UK Biobank. Researchers looked at data from more than 30,000 participants to draw these conclusions. They recently presented their findings before the ESC.
At this time, it’s the largest study to date that acknowledges the benefits of coffee drinking, and it is causing sighs of relief across the world. Coffee is a regular part of a lot of people’s lives (including mine) and knowing that if it’s done within moderation it’s likely to do good and not harm is very reassuring.
Adopting other healthy practices is important. Getting exercise, stopping smoking, eating right, and maintaining a healthy blood pressure are all important. If you’d like to learn more about how to do these things, get in touch with your doctor for more information. They can help get you steered in the right direction right away.
Everyone is different and heart disease impacts different people in different ways. Whether your loved one is a coffee drinker or not, heart disease might have a tremendous impact on your family. If this is the case, you don’t have to go through it alone. Finding a care service that understands this and takes it into account with the care that they provide is important, especially as needs are severe enough that they become hard to meet on your own.
There are many services and agencies out there designed to help seniors. Get in touch with one of them if you’re unsure of the best ways to help an older loved one get connected to the high quality of care that they deserve. If you’re in the Bay Area, we can be one of those resources for you. If not, we’d be happy to help get you connected with someone else.
Good care is vital as loved ones age, regardless of the issues that they might face. The sooner you start your search, the sooner they can be connected with the right resources for their unique set of needs.
