Believe it or not, it’s almost time to start thinking about Medicare open enrollment. This occurs every year from October 15th until December 7th. During this time, eligible individuals can sign up for Medicare or make changes to their existing coverage. Between January 1st and March 31st, those that are enrolled in Medicare Advantage can make changes, or switch to traditional Medicare.
This might be months away at this point, but if you’re thinking of making changes, now is the time to start planning ahead. If you’re new to Medicare, you will want time to ask questions and figure out which plan is best for you. If you’ve had Medicare for a while, you will want to reevaluate what your needs are and how your current policy is helping (or not helping). You’ll want time to look at what’s out there and how it will help you to meet your current and anticipated needs.
If you’re unsure of how changes might impact the care that you or a family member are receiving, please get in touch with a trusted insurance professional to help walk you through your unique circumstances.
Medicare is the primary insurance source for most senior citizens, and because of that, it’s important that you understand how it impacts your health care. Medicare doesn’t play as big of a role in senior care as many people believe, so it’s also important that you understand how it impacts the daily assistance that you and your family receive as you age. Although there have been some changes in the law over the past several years, Medicare still doesn’t cover a lot of care costs.
You have choices when it comes to paying for your senior and medical care that go well beyond Medicare. There’s even a lot of choices within Medicare itself, including private plans and add ons that might help to cover your medical needs more fully. And don’t forget to look at senior care options. There is very little that straight Medicare can do here, but private long term care policies might help to fill in this gap for you. Be sure to look at what is actually covered and what your financial obligation will be, both in premiums and in costs for services.
It’s important that you have a team that can help you navigate these things. No one can be an expert on everything, after all. Not everyone has experience going through the ins and outs of the care process. Even those that do have this expertise benefit from having an extra set of eyes to help them out.
We’re here if you’d like to talk more. One of our trained professionals can go over in-home care, what it is, and how it might help you and your family. They can do all of this during a free consultation session.
