There has been a lot of talk lately about the Affordable Care Act and whether or not it will be repealed. It also has a lot of people–especially senior citizens–very concerned about their own health insurance. We can’t tell you what the House and the Senate will do in terms of keeping the health insurance law or getting rid of it, but we can tell you that health insurance is an important part of staying healthy, both for the elderly and everyone else. If you have questions or concerns about your own coverage, we strongly urge you to talk to a health insurance specialist who can guide you in the right direction.
When it comes to senior citizens, your care likely falls under the realm of public access health insurance. All seniors have access to Medicare, and many seniors have access to Medicare, or in California, Medi-Cal. This latter health insurance is designed to insure that low income individuals have access to minimal care in order to help them stay healthy and reduce their burden in terms of health care costs.
Many types of senior care are not covered by Medicare or Medi-Cal, but that doesn’t mean that health insurance in general is not important. These insurance policies, and the riders that go along with them, have the potential to drastically reduce costs, and make care more affordable because of the saved money in other areas. Medical treatment is expensive without insurance, and if costs can be cut without sacrificing the quality of care, then that money can be used to improve life in other aspects.
If you’re concerned about what will happen to your health insurance, you are not alone. However, the more prepared you are now with your care, the less potential that changes, if any, will impact your elderly loved one’s senior care choices. Look over what types of care are available to your mom or dad, what types of care they will benefit the most from, and then make an educated decision from there. If you know what kind of care your parent prefers, you will have even more information to work with. Hopefully there will not ever be a need for them to have a caregiver working closely with them, but if that need exists, then you want them to have the best. The sooner you get something set up for them, the better.
We have no idea if the Affordable Care Act, or Obamacare as it’s come to be called, will be repealed or not. The decision for this is out of our hands and in the hands of our Federal lawmakers. What we do know is that health insurance is something designed to help everyone to defray the costs of expensive care and to ensure that care is there when you need it and that the expenses created aren’t going to completely change your lifestyle. By helping reduce senior care costs, we here at Paradise In-Home Care try to do our part to make both the lives of those we care for and their families a little bit better. If you have questions about in-home care, give us a call to set up a free consultation today.
