Recognizing your needs as an individual is the first step toward meeting those needs. This is true for every single stage of life, but nowhere does it become more obvious than when it comes to the importance of high quality senior care.
I can illustrate the importance of this by reflecting on what I focused on years ago when I was in college. I originally went to school to become a teacher, and even spent several years working in the classroom with seventh and eighth grade students. One of the things you quickly learn when working with students is that Student A might learn a concept in one way, while this teaching method does absolutely nothing for Student B. I was taught that I really need to teach the same concept in several different ways if I want to have success for each student in my classroom.
I love education so I still keep up with it. I wasn’t surprised to find that current research indicates that the teaching method that seems to work best overall is individual tutoring.
What does this have to do with senior care?
In-home care prioritizes the needs of the individual. It brings the help to them, rather than asking them to come and reside in a new place. In-home care gives seniors that opportunity to live where they want, how they want, but still receive the help that they need to do it in a safe and healthy way.
This is where in-home care really shines through. In-home care has a unique ability to meet the needs of a senior on a case by case basis. Like a one to one tutor, in-home care is applied in a personal manner. Most typically, there’s one person receiving care at a time with one person applying that care. It allows the person in need to be the main focus of the caregiver that is helping them out. Just like a tutor can hone in on the needs of the student and teach them what they need to know and do so in the style that will help them the most, the in-home caregiver can focus on the precise needs of the person they are working with, and do it in the way that will help them the most.
Your older loved one is unique. They have unique interests and goals. They have a specific way that they want to live their lives. They have needs–medical, physical, and emotional–that are unique to them, too. You wouldn’t treat them the way that you would someone else, even someone else that you are close to. Their care should take this into account. Senior care should focus on the needs of the individual in order to help them live life the way they want to.
