Senior care staff are essential for the long term health and wellbeing of our older family and friends. However, there are shortages of caregivers all across the country right now.
It’s a problem that’s been a long time in the works. Because of the large number of seniors that are aging and in need, many care professionals and policy makers have been aware that there was an impending care shortage. Policies and incentives have been instituted across the country, but these have only seen limited success.
There’s still a long way to go if all care needs are going to be fully met.
Different parts of the U.S. will be (and have been) impacted in different ways by a shortage of caregivers. For example, rural areas with fewer people living in them tend to have difficulties that cities and suburban areas don’t have. Cities and densely populated areas usually don’t have the same staffing issues that smaller towns do. It’s easier to fill jobs because there are more people in and around cities to take those jobs. Small towns and sparsely populated places don’t have the same population pool to choose from, and it can be tougher to fill open positions.
When this happens, it’s not just businesses and economies that hurt. It’s the people in need of help that are impacted the most. Senior care services can’t help people in the way that they are designed to if they don’t have the staff necessary to man all of the needed positions.
It’s important to note that the pandemic has changed how a lot of people have thought about work and employment. This has only made finding the right care staff a little bit harder for some services. Again, this hurts seniors in need the most.
Here at Paradise In-Home Care, we take great pride in the quality of the staff members that we hire. We have a rigorous process that candidates must go through prior to being hired. We have a stringent interview process, along with a background check to help ensure that we are only hiring people that are qualified for the work that we do and are here to help others. The hope is to get only the best caregivers on our team, all while eliminating the chances that someone might be here for the wrong reasons.
Once someone is hired, they are insured and bonded, and go through extensive training. Our staff can only help others if they have the skills and knowledge to do so. And like many other positions, this training needs to be ongoing in order to be at its most effective. There’s always more research and work being done to help make senior caregivers better at their jobs.
