Over the last several years, technology and care organizations have been looking at the best ways to care for the elderly, and then take steps to help improve the quality of life that seniors experience while receiving that care.
Several different avenues have been explored. Robotics, smart technology, sensors, and more have been developed on the tech front. Some of these products have been very helpful at improving the care that’s given. Telehealth advances and the widespread adoption of telemedicine in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic have been some of the most prevalent changes. Almost everyone has used Zoom or Facetime to talk with a loved one or a professional over the last couple years.
And while things like technology have helped in some respects, there is only so much that technology can do. Technology can fill in holes in care, but it can’t do everything. Human contact is an essential component of our physical and emotional health.
This is the reason why alternative types of care are catching on with more and more people. The traditional models of senior care that we tend to think about, such as the nursing home and assisted living facilities, are important and definitely serve a purpose. But they aren’t the only types of care out there. Additionally, while they are helpful for some, some seniors find that these are not the best choices for them.
Ideally, senior care would change to meet the needs of each individual. In a perfect world, this would be a helpful way to ensure that the needs of every older person in need are met. That’s not our reality, though. Taking steps to get to this for you and your family are realistic–and we believe that in-home care can help get a little bit closer to that goal.
Senior living doesn’t need to fit into one of these narrow categories. That’s one of the things that we believe and why we think in-home care is so helpful. It helps to meet the person receiving care’s needs, rather than putting the person receiving care into a category. It’s more customizable and adaptable to individual needs.
There’s no one “right” answer when it comes to senior care. Everyone has different needs, goals, and hopes for what they are looking to get from senior care. Additionally, medical and other needs will differ from person to person and the list of what’s actually available in different parts of the country when it comes to meeting those needs will be different. It would be so much easier to get connected with high quality care if there was a way to plug your needs into a calculator and be given the best answer to meet those needs, but in reality, care is much more complex than this.
