We all know what subscription services are. You probably use several of them on a daily basis. Netflix, Hello Fresh, Ipsy, Amazon Prime, and Birchbox are all examples of some of the more popular ones. But there are subscription services for almost every business or hobby that you can think of. Whether you’re interested in outdoor items, sporting goods, crafting, or something else, there’s a subscription service out there that you can use.
And you can find subscription services that relate to the senior care business, too.
This is happening as the technological market continues to grow. It’s one of the good things about an expanding market–more and more companies are taking the senior population a lot more seriously. After all, the senior population is one of the biggest demographic pieces in the U.S. The Baby Boomer generation–that group of individuals that was born in the years following the Second World War–are in their 60s and 70s now. This population is continuing to age and grow in the amount of care and assistance that they need. They also tend to have a unique set of needs that are not always easy to address.
A recent estimate states that the senior subscription service market is rapidly expanding. The growth rate over the next ten years is expected to reach 16 percent–a number that places this sector above the market average.
Originally, one of the concerns that technology companies expressed regarding seniors was that many seniors just weren’t using tech items. Because of this, there wasn’t a lot of demand for tech products that catered to the senior population. So, the products that were being created were not getting the same attention that other, mainstream products were getting. They were not as well designed as they could be, and they were more expensive than they should have been. For a long time, the senior sector was a small, niche market.
That’s not the case anymore. And that’s one of the big reasons why more and more companies are exploring products made specifically for seniors, and not just tech items. The cultural phenomenon of subscription services and gig culture has moved into the senior care world, and for many, that’s a very good thing. It means more choices and more convenience than ever before. Even if this is not the kind of product or service that you or your family will ever use, it’s still a good thing to have options out there. More options means more quality services that are easier to access.
For the longest time, access to care and services has been a stumbling block for many seniors in need. Some parts of the country have a lot of services available, but some parts have almost nothing available. Technology, subscription services, and similar concepts have helped the industry to expand, bringing the things that the elderly population needs to the forefront of society.
