It is estimated that there will be 77 million people aged 65 or older by the year 2034 if current trends continue. The latest demographic data indicates that there were 52 million people in this age range in 2018. That’s an increase of 25 million people in just 16 years. It’s projected that there will be more senior citizens than children at some point in the near future for the first time ever in the U.S.
As the population grows older, the needs of the population change. A shifting focus toward meeting those changing needs is required. For example, about 80 percent of elderly folk have two or more chronic health issues. Add to this the fact that people are living longer lives, and you have a potentially difficult situation, requiring extra care and consideration from doctors and other professionals. It also makes it far more likely that an individual will require extra help as they age.
As people live longer lives, the chances that they will need long term care at some point in their lives increases. Now, consider that there are more seniors than ever before.
It begs a very serious question: how can we ensure that this population is getting the help, the care, and the love that they deserve as they age?
One answer is through high quality senior care. When care is able to meet you where you are, you’re a lot less likely to fall through the cracks. It can mean the difference between just getting by as you age and thriving as you age.
Right now, there are predicted care shortages in parts of the country. Finding care is going to be more and more difficult for some people as time goes by. There are measures in place to combat this, but that doesn’t mean that changes will be made quickly. Finding care early on will help alleviate this problem.
The good news is that this change has been anticipated for quite some time. And there’s still a good deal of time before all of the predicted needs will require acute attention. If you’re looking for help getting the ball rolling, please remember that you have resources on your side.
