We all know that it is important to manage our blood pressure at this point, right? Well, new research indicates that this action is actually a lot more beneficial than what was previously thought.
High blood pressure–also referred to as hypertension–can be an indicator that someone is at high risk of a cardiovascular emergency. It can lead to stroke, heart attack, and other issues.
Medication has revolutionized the medical community’s ability to treat blood pressure. When someone has high blood pressure that isn’t impacted in a positive manner through changes in diet and exercise, medication can often be the missing link needed to help someone in this situation live the healthiest life that they can.
But medication might not be just for those that are already suffering from high blood pressure, this latest research indicates. A study out of Europe indicates that even people who have not been diagnosed with high blood pressure can benefit from taking this type of medication. Preventative usage of blood pressure medication in those that have not necessarily been diagnosed with hypertension also provides benefits and a lower risk of heart disease.
Even with this in mind, the writers of this study wanted to be clear that this does not mean that everyone should take blood pressure medication. Rather, a targeted population that is more at risk of heart attack or other cardiovascular would benefit.
This new research comes from the European Society of Cardiology. Their findings were published on their website, www.escardio.org. Over 340,000 people were observed in this study.
Blood pressure is something that your doctor can likely explain to you much better than I can. It is a measurement of how much pressure your heart produces when it is pumping blood throughout your body. As your heart beats, blood goes into it and then flows out of it, creating two directions for blood to move throughout the body. Oxygenated blood goes out from the heart, sending that necessary resource out. Blood with oxygen depleted from it comes back in as the lung supplies the body with new oxygen. The blood pressure is a measure of how efficiently this occurs. As a general rule, lower blood pressures are safer. It is possible to have a blood pressure that is too low as this indicates that the heartbeat is too slow or stopping altogether.
If you have questions about blood pressure, please consult a physician. A doctor will be able to give you a more accurate idea of what a safe range is when it comes to blood pressure, and how you as an individual can better attain that safe range. Although there’s a lot of general knowledge here, it is not targeted toward you and your specific health needs.
Customized medical care is far more effective than general info. This is true for senior care, too. When the care that is given is custom suited to meet someone’s needs, it is going to be a lot more helpful than when a more generalized approach is taken. This is why in-home care has consistently proven to be effective for seniors. It gives them the care they need in the way that they need it.
