Companion care is one of the buzzwords that have emerged out of the senior care world in the months following the pandemic. However, companion care has been around for a lot longer than this and has existed for many years, even if it hasn’t always been referred to as companion care.
In this blog post, I will briefly explore what companion care is, what it can do for a family, and talk about how you can get connected to the right senior care for your family’s unique needs.
Companion care refers to a type of senior care where the person that is helping provides companionship or friendship to the individual that they are helping out. They are more than just a caregiver, they are a trusted friend. This is more like having a friend hang out with you during the day than it is having a professional caregiver attend to your needs.
Study after study indicates that people are happier and healthier when they are surrounded by people that they care about. Our health as we age isn’t just physical–it’s emotional, too. When we are healthy mentally, physical health tends to follow suit. And emotional health has even been linked to people feeling healthier even if they are struggling with chronic illness or disease. Companion care places an importance on both of these things.
Companion care can take shape in a number of different forms. It can be administered in the home or away. It can be done through a professional caregiver or through a friend or family member. It doesn’t have to look like traditional senior care–it can and should look like whatever it needs to look like to be effective.
We call what we do here at Paradise In-Home Care “in-home care.” However, we have long maintained that what makes our service unique is that we do far more than just provide senior care services. Our caregivers are trained professionally and are some of the best senior care workers in the entire world. But we also know that high quality care is about much more than just meeting basic needs. It’s about helping out people. Oftentimes, people need more than a meal or to be helped into the bathroom. People need other people. There’s much more to life than just meeting basic physical needs.
But the right senior care can really make a difference. It can help your entire family live a higher quality of life. And the right care will really help your family not just feel better physically, but emotionally, too.
Ultimately, the right type of senior care for you and your family will be dependent on your unique set of needs, goals, and wishes. Senior care can and should look different from family to family because each family has their own unique situation.
In-home care can help make this a reality.
