Recently, a team of Swedish researchers focused on how blood tests can be used to more effectively detect the presence of Alzheimer’s disease. The team used existing tests and looked at what worked and why to help determine a more effective method of detecting this common form of dementia.
The team of researchers believes that this data will help doctors to diagnose Alzheimer’s earlier, thus creating better overall treatment paths for those that do have the disease. Their research identified multiple biomarkers that can be used to help make an early Alzheimer’s diagnosis.
This research comes out of the University of Gothenburg. They published their findings in the journal, Nature Medicine.
At this time, there’s no cure for Alzheimer’s disease. However, when early detection is possible, those with an Alzheimer’s diagnosis have a much better prognosis over the short term. Early detection allows doctors to take a treatment approach that can help those that have the disease live a higher quality of life for a longer period of time. If these blood tests are able to detect the disease sooner, it means that the early spread of Alzheimer’s can potentially be slowed down so that symptoms are not as severe.
If you or someone that you love has Alzheimer’s, there’s help out there. Finding the right medical attention is the first step, but it’s only a part of the overall system that should be in place.
A skilled senior caregiver is another part of that system. Memory care isn’t something that every single senior care service provides, but a caregiver that is skilled and has received professional training in how to best provide care to someone suffering from Alzheimer’s makes a profound difference in someone’s life. Senior care is not an easy thing to provide to begin with; Alzheimer’s disease makes it even tougher. While many caregivers can do a great job in these situations, this isn’t something that you want to leave to chance.
This is why we stress specialized training to our caregivers. If someone is going to provide care for an elderly individual with Alzheimer’s, we ensure that they have received a very high level of memory care training before they are even in the field. We make sure that we place the right caregiver in the right situation to help the families that we serve as much as possible. That’s one of the great things that comes about because of in-home care–it is customizable to help ensure that it will be as effective as possible.
If you’d like to learn more about how in-home care might benefit a loved one with Alzheimer’s, please let us know. One of our care staff would be happy to talk more with you about how in-home care might benefit you and your family. Senior care shouldn’t be a chore and it shouldn’t be a mystery. We hope to help our community by ensuring that you have all of the information that you need so that you can find the best care possible for your unique set of needs and goals.
