According to a new study, people that drink tea tend to live longer than those that don’t. The European Journal of Preventive Cardiology recently reported that people that drink tea at least three times per week benefit by living a longer and healthier life. Green tea was the most effective type of tea for achieving these results.
The researchers involved in this study believe that tea has certain chemicals within it that benefit the heart. They found that there was a 20 percent less chance that someone who was a habitual tea drinker would develop heart disease, a 22 percent less chance that they would die from heart disease, and during the timeframe of this study, there was a 15 percent overall chance that habitual tea drinkers would pass away from any cause. There’s still a lot of questions that are left unanswered here, but the immediate takeaway is that tea has some benefits when it comes to heart health.
There are often little things like this that hit the news that indicate that doing one thing, or eating or drinking one new thing can help people to live a longer, better life. Sometimes these things have scientific backing, and sometimes they don’t. There are so many things like this out there that it can be hard to keep track of what’s real and what’s not.
Our goal here isn’t to point you to every new fad exercise or diet, but rather to help you gain a more comprehensive view of what good senior health can look like. If you’re not a tea drinker and you never have been, this study probably isn’t a good reason to start–even if you think that the prospect of living a longer life seems like a good one.
Instead, adopting overall healthier practices into your life are a much better long term goal. Tea can be one of them, but it doesn’t necessarily have to be. Quitting smoking, eating less fast food, and going for a short walk everyday are also very effective ways to help yourself live a longer and happier life. This goes for our elderly loved ones, other family members, and ourselves. Taking steps now to live a better life will have big payouts down the road.
Everyone is different, and what works for some won’t work for all. Senior care is quite the same way. Look at your own family as an example. Everyone is different and has their own set of needs and goals. Having a group of people working with you to help you achieve those things can make a big difference–especially when it comes to the care that we receive.
This is why we are such big supporters of customized care. The senior care needs of one person are not always the same as another. Yes, there are big things that overlap from person to person, but even the style in which these things are administered can often be different. Focusing on the person–and not the fact that senior care is needed–makes a world of difference when it comes to the outcome.
