The University of Michigan recently published their findings in a new study focused on blood thinners. They discovered that those who needed this type of medication were often taking far too many medications, and the end result was that about one-third of patients were at a risk of major bleeding as a result of this.
In this study, researchers looked at the use of aspirin in addition to the use of an anticoagulant drug and found that for many, the risk of taking two medications could potentially outweigh the benefits that taking two drugs. Both aspirin and anticoagulants have benefits on their own because they reduce the risk of a second heart attack or stroke, according to other sources.
It makes sense that aspirin would be overused, unfortunately. Multiple sources confirm that aspirin can lower the risk of a second heart attack and it’s an over the counter medication. No prescription is needed, like one would need for an anticoagulant like Warfarin. This is why it’s so important that people speak with their doctors about all medications they take, including OTC drugs and supplements.
The right medical attention is just the first step when it comes to caring for a loved one who has suffered from a stroke or a heart attack. In many of these instances, the person who has suffered from some sort of cardiac event now has a new set of needs and requirements that they must get through in order to stay healthy and safe throughout each day. If you have an older loved one who fits into this category, in-home care might be exactly what you’re looking for to help them stay safe and continue to meet your other obligations in your life. Rather than leaving your job, enlisting the help of a professional caregiver can help you to remain as the active provider within your family.
Studies even show that many people find it even more expensive to leave their job and provide care thanks to the opportunity cost that comes along with leaving a source of income. Now, we know that caring for an elderly loved one is about a lot more than money. Money plays a role, but it’s certainly not the only consideration that you need to confront. However, many people do worry about money, and knowing that professional care can help you to save some is reassuring.
Ultimately, what you want is to know that your parent is in safe and loving hands. That’s why we do so much at Paradise In-Home Care to ensure that we only employ the best caregivers.
