A new clinical study has looked at people dealing with chronic pain and how it is thought about. The researchers involved in this study believe that by helping people retrain sensorimotor actions, pain can be managed and interpreted by the brain.
Those who suffer from chronic back pain often struggle to see advances with their quality of life, even when it comes to pain killers and therapy. However, through this sensorimotor interpretation, those suffering from chronic pain in their lower backs were far more likely to report improvements even a year after therapy had stopped.
This new method of treatment goes against what has been traditionally recommended when it comes to treating pain. However, over the last several years, very little progress has been made at all in this area. Hopefully, sensorimotor treatment will prove to be even more effective than traditionally used methods. The premise of this treatment rests on the concept that chronic pain is different from acute pain.
This research comes from the University of New South Wales. They published their findings in the Journal of the American Medical Association. And while there are still a lot of things that we don’t fully understand about pain and how to effectively treat it, this study does shed a little more light than what we once had upon the subject. Hopefully, this research helps to stimulate future research so that those living with chronic pain can get the help and relief that they deserve in a safe and effective manner.
Chronic pain can be life changing. It can make daily tasks and activities that were once mindless and taken for granted become huge obstacles to living a high quality of life. It can make those easy things become impossible. Those that deal with chronic pain might be able to get things done like they need to, but not everyone is this fortunate. Having a care system in place to help make life a little bit easier can take a huge burden off of your shoulders.
If you’re like many others, you know you need help getting started, but you’re unsure of what those first steps should look like. That’s where we can help. Our senior caregivers are trained in several different types of care and have years of professional experience in the field. Odds are, we have exactly what we’re looking for. Speaking with one of our staff members can help get you and your family connected to the right type of care for your unique set of needs.
And if we don’t have the right resources to help, we can help you get connected somewhere else. While we would be honored to provide in-home care or another type of assistance for your family, we also know that different people have different needs and it is unrealistic that we can provide that for everyone.
One of our team members would be happy to talk over your options and help you determine what the best first steps will be for your family–all with no obligation on your part.
