Today, there are more choices when it comes to senior care than ever before in history. And this is a very good thing. While we all are aware of the traditional care models out there, there are many other choices besides this.
For example, in-home care, a service that we provide here at Paradise In-Home Care, is growing in popularity all across the country. In-home care involves a trained professional coming to your home to provide care there. It’s ideal for an elderly individual who doesn’t want to relocate to an assisted living facility or a nursing home.
There’s nothing wrong with these types of care. But we also know that they aren’t perfect for everyone. Some people don’t mind relocating to get help. Some people would rather suffer than do so. Everyone’s different. The growing number of choices and their growing accessibility when it comes to senior living means that more elderly folk are going to be happier while having their basic needs met.
Following the COVID-19 pandemic, more and more people realized that the traditional nursing home model just wasn’t working for them. Unfortunately, it was very clear that the traditional model of senior care just was not working during the peak of the pandemic. Family members and friends were separated. Nursing homes saw far more deaths than other portions of our society. While part of this is due to the health issues and comorbidities that nursing home residents tend to face, it was also (at least partially) because of the compartmentalization of nursing homes. When people are grouped together in close quarters, the risk of the transmission of disease rises significantly. It wasn’t intentional, but the nursing home model placed a lot of people at risk.
There are other types of care beyond these things. Multi-generational homes, senior living communities, and more all have begun to grow in number across our country. These have long been known as great options, but until COVID, we haven’t seen them become mainstream. This is starting to change.
Ultimately, more choices means more freedom and flexibility. When senior care is needed, having these choices can help get the people that you care about closer to the ideal type of care for your needs and lifestyle. More choices can be overwhelming. Though. Having someone you trust can help.
