The Changing Job Market and Senior Care

April 14, 2022 by Matt Young Leave a Comment

The Changing Job Market and Senior Care

All across the country, businesses find themselves in a unique situation. There are more job openings that have not been filled since many positions were temporarily cut or restructured during the COVID pandemic. At the same time, there is a large number of people who are un- or under-employed. This seems to be disparate, as there are job openings, but a lot of people out of work at the same time. This problem has gotten a bit better over the last several months as the pandemic has waned in most parts of the country.

However, the pangs of this nationwide labor crisis are being felt most heavily in the healthcare industry. And the senior care sector is feeling it even harder than other parts of the health world. While businesses and individuals in need of income are certainly suffering as a result of this, the place where this is felt most severely is in the senior population itself.

About Paradise In Home Care

The senior care job market is in trouble as the number of senior care workers in our communities has declined since the start of the pandemic.

This is not a problem that’s easy to resolve. It’s not as simple as paying people more or giving people better benefits. If it was, the problem would have resolved itself months ago as states have moved toward higher minimum wages and private companies have raised wages to all-time highs all across the country.

Although senior care services have seen a rise in the last few months when it comes to employment numbers, the care service market has seen an overall steady decrease in employment numbers since the beginning of the pandemic. With the rising need of more care workers because of the growing number of elderly folk in our communities, we already were in a place where we needed to hire a significant number of caregivers. Instead, we are seeing numbers going in the opposite direction for the care community as a whole. Unfortunately, senior care services all across the country need to make some significant changes if they are going to continue to serve their communities in the way that is needed.

Yes, there are some major issues with the employment market right now. You have more than likely experienced this in some capacity already, whether it’s higher prices on everyday items, waiting longer in lines, or not having access to goods and materials like you once did. But when it comes to the health of a loved one, this issue goes from an inconvenience to a potential danger.

We’re here to help. We’ve been impacted by the pandemic, just like everyone else. But our mission is to help connect families to the best senior care for their specific needs. We can’t guarantee that we’re the right service for you, but we can at least start the conversation. That’s what our free consultation session is designed to achieve. From here, we can help get you pointed in the right direction. One of our trained professionals would be happy to talk more with you. Please give us a call today to get scheduled. The sooner you start the process, the easier it will be to find the perfect care for your unique situation.
