The pandemic has brought a lot of heartache along with it. The senior care front has been no different. The love and care of our elderly loved ones has always been our number one focus here, and it’s an understatement to say that COVID has really changed how we think about our mission here at Paradise In-Home Care. But even with all of the uncertainty and pain that the pandemic has brought, our core philosophies have remained unchanged. Our older loved ones need and deserve personalized care tailored to their needs.
One of the big dilemmas that we’ve seen is that no one was really certain what the virus was or what the best steps were to fight it early on. A lot of mistakes were made. It’s no secret that some of the mistakes made were very costly, such as what we saw happen in New York with COVID patients being mandated to reside within nursing homes. A recent ruling decided that no wrongdoing occurred here, and while some people want to see politicians face the consequences of their decisions, we also realize that no one was acting maliciously. Many lives were lost, but as we learned more about the virus, we were able to start acting more intelligently with the information that we had at our disposal.
In other aspects, the pandemic has exposed shortcomings of the care system as a whole. There’s a lot of work to be done; awareness is only the first step toward helping to fix this issue.
Where we go from here is uncertain. But we know that care as a whole needs to change to better protect those that we love.
If we’ve learned anything from the pandemic regarding senior care it’s that we need to continue to be proactive when it comes to the quality of care that our loved ones receive. We can’t just trust that every single care facility is going to take the steps necessary to meet the unique needs of our loved ones. Unfortunately, this trust has been betrayed too many times to just assume that this is a given.
Our older loved ones deserve the best. Senior care is no exception to this. When it comes to care, you shouldn’t be asked to make sacrifices.
