It’s one of the big questions that new retirees ask themselves: where should I live after I retire?
There are a lot of websites and articles out there designed to answer this question, but really, it’s a very subjective one. The best place to retire to won’t be the same for me as it is for you.
Surveys and estimates indicate that some states are better than others when it comes to retirement. These surveys do tend to be a bit subjective, of course. Everyone has different values and needs that they are looking to be fulfilled during their retirement years. States like Florida and California tend to have higher rankings simply because these are states that people have historically moved to for retirement purposes for years. They often have more extensive care and service infrastructures than other states do for that reason.
A smooth retirement offers peace of mind, financial stability, and the freedom to enjoy life on your terms. With well-planned savings and investments, the new retiree can focus on their hobbies, travel, or spending time with loved ones without worrying. A secure retirement also supports better health, reducing stress and allowing individuals to stay active. It ensures independence, providing the ability to live comfortably while pursuing passions old and new, all while maintaining a fulfilling lifestyle.
Tax rates, social activities, population, access to senior care, and recreational activities are a few things that these polls tend to take into account. What they don’t take into account is location, proximity to friends and family, and personal taste. All of these things should also be taken into account when planning on moving during your retirement years.
Retirement is just the start, though. As people age, the need for more help tends to grow. Most people don’t need senior care the moment they become a senior citizen or retire. However, as people get into their 70s, 80s, and beyond, the likelihood that they will struggle with the everyday activities that once came so naturally to them increases. Having supports in place as someone ages and their needs grow is vital for them to continue to thrive as they age.
That’s where senior care comes in. The right senior care acts seamlessly with the life that a senior is already living. Depending on the person and their needs, this will look different from one person to the next.
It’s one of the big reasons why we are such fans of in-home care. In-home care is adaptable and adjustable. It doesn’t need to look the same from person to person. It can vary and grow as the person receiving assistance needs it to.
