A study from the American Heart Association is shining new light on just how harmful sugary drinks like sodas and juices can be. According to this study, women that drink sugary beverages are 20 percent more likely to suffer from cardiovascular disease than those that don’t. And this is with just occasional consumption. People that drank sugary fruit juices on a daily basis were up to 42 percent more likely to suffer from cardiovascular issues.
While we all know that soda isn’t good for us, the dangers of drinking it with regularity tend to seem very far off, or something that will have a negative impact on other people, but not us. Not yet, anyway. When looking at a study like this, the negative impact of drinking soda regularly becomes a lot more apparent. Taking a snapshot of the long term consequences of our decisions helps to make the importance of these seemingly small choices easier to think about.
This particular study focused on female teachers here in the State of California. While this is perhaps not a completely representative group for all people in the world, it does illustrate some of the dangers of too much sugar in your diet. We often think about things like obesity and diabetes when it comes to an unbalanced diet, but cardiovascular disease rarely makes our list of things that we should worry about when drinking a bottle of soda. This study reveals that it is a lot more dangerous than it appears to be at first glance. And with all of the other health risks that we associate with poor diet, this is yet another reason to limit our intake of unhealthy things.
And we’re not the only ones that should be concerned about this. Our eldelry loved ones and children will also be affected by the dietary choices that they make. In some cases, these changes can be hard to make. In others, it’s as simple as a parent making a few small changes in the food that is supplied to the family.
Senior citizens face a variety of health issues, with cardiovascular disease being just one of the many things that they are up against. As you probably know, seniors are far more susceptible to negative outcomes when it comes to these types of diseases, and having protections in place to help them stay as healthy as possible is important.
Luckily, in-home care can help to keep a lot of health issues from getting worse. In-home care doesn’t provide any sort of health care. Caregivers are not nurses. Their medical training doesn’t go much beyond the basics. However, this does not mean that an in-home caregiver does not play an important role in the health of an elderly individual. Sometimes, supervision is one of the most important things that can be given, depending on the health issues that are being faced.
This isn’t the perfect care solution for everyone, but it will help a lot of people. And, it’s a good way to keep the people that you love where they want to be as they age.
