One of the things that comes up time and time again when speaking with people about senior care, or even when doing my own research on the web, is that the care system is complicated. People understand that there’s a need for help when it comes to an aging loved one, but much of the time, their understanding of where to begin is clouded because of the complexities that are built into the system.
The purpose of the blog post today isn’t to make it less complicated. Unfortunately, that’s not possible in a setting like this. Rather, I hope to talk about some of the highlights of the care system, talk about why it has become so complex, and give you some direction so that starting your search isn’t too overwhelming.
Care is designed to meet long term needs. This can take place in the home or out of it. Out of home care can be medical, such as what will take place in a nursing home, or non medical, like what an assisted living facility provides. In-home care can be medical or non-medical, too.
The system is complicated for a number of reasons. First of all, there are dozens (or more) of types of care out there. Add to that the intricacies of how it is paid for, either through one type of insurance, out of pocket, through grants, or something else. Finally, there are a number of things that are actually being paid for when it comes to care costs. Food, housing, medical assistance, staffing, utilities, activities, and much more are all rolled into the typical senior care fees. This makes it so that one single system can’t possibly cover everything.
But really, it shouldn’t be this hard to find the help that you or a loved one require. It would be so much better if the system was simplified so that you could be sure that your family was getting precisely the help that’s needed and that it was given in a way that was beneficial to your entire family. That’s what we try to do through in-home care. We believe it is the type of care that is most easily personalized to live up with the unique needs that each individual has.
Speaking with a care professional is one of the easiest ways to demystify the care process. Speaking with someone who understands the world of care and can help guide you based on your unique needs can help to smooth the process over and help you figure out what will work best for you.
If we can help make things less overwhelming for your family, we’d be happy to do so. The care process can be tough, but you don’t need to navigate it alone. We’re here for you. Whether it’s a quick call, a consultation session, or providing care, we have the tools to help. Let us know what we can do today with a call. Someone will be happy to sit down with you and get things moving in the right direction.
