Recently, a team of researchers found that there is a link between iron deficiency in the body and heart disease. They found that about 10 percent of all cases of heart disease could be prevented if iron deficiencies were treated early on, rather than left to become more severe. This study builds upon past evidence that has shown that people who have a heart attack tend to suffer worse outcomes if an iron deficiency is already present. This is one more piece of evidence that might help keep people healthier as they age.
The authors were very clear that they do not yet have evidence that indicates that an iron deficiency causes heart disease. However, an iron deficiency does seem to be related to heart disease. Whether it is a cause or a symptom remains to be identified. Hopefully, this is an area that can be illuminated with future research so that more people can get the help and treatment that they need to stay as healthy as possible.
The team published their findings in the journal, ESC Heart Failure.
Heart disease is the number one killer in the US. It is also one of the leading causes of disability and can lead to a pronounced need for senior care in the elderly. A stroke can be debilitating and can lead to a lifetime of dependence on others for help with basic things that once came naturally. When someone is recovering from a cardiac event or has advanced symptoms of heart disease, the need for professional help can appear sudden and severe. Having a strong team of professionals on your side to help can be helpful, even if it doesn’t necessarily cure the problem.
Professional care is never something that people look forward to, but when it comes to heart disease and other major health issues, the relief that a professional can bring to your family is palpable. But finding this care can be a huge hassle, especially if the need for it is unexpected.
You have resources out there, you just need to know where to look for them. That’s where organizations like ours can step in and help. Although we are an in-home care service, we are happy to do so much more for the families that we serve, too. For example, we offer free care consultations to our clientele and those in our communities. This is not a sales session, but rather an informative meeting to help get you steered in the right direction. Of course, we’d love to provide for your care needs, but we know that this isn’t always the best option for every situation. If in-home care isn’t quite right for you, we will let you know and help direct you toward the resources that will best meet your family’s unique set of needs.
