We have long known that personalized care is superior to generic care. This is why we are such strong supporters of in-home care. In-home care administers help to the individual, rather than focusing on a larger group of people. It is easier to focus on the individual’s needs and make changes as needed as they come along. The reality here is that this isn’t easy to do, especially as the senior population grows and the care industry struggles to keep up with it. Unfortunately, individualized care–although incredibly helpful–isn’t easy to do on a widespread basis.
Researchers have come a step closer to making widespread individualized care a reality, though. A new imaging test called coronary calcium scoring is able to provide individualized data and guidance for each person that has this test applied.
The test is a computed tomography scan that looks at levels of calcium deposits within the arteries that supply blood to the heart. By seeing what these numbers are, doctors can provide better customized care to treat this condition, known as atherosclerosis.
Atherosclerosis–the presence of coronary plaque–is usually treated with statins. However, not all statins are the same and they are not always the best way to treat the condition. This imaging test can provide doctors with more precise information so that the treatment is ideal for the individual. The personalized care that can be provided with this test will help to improve health outcomes for everyone that has it. And the best part is that the test is quick. It only takes about ten minutes to administer.
Researchers are also in the process of developing a risk calculator to help doctors better determine when a statin will be helpful for patients. Because this medication can have severe side effects, this will likely help to improve the quality of life for patients as they will be treated with a more helpful method depending on their exact needs. Hopefully, these tests will be available on a widespread basis soon.
Regardless of where you find yourself in your care journey, we’re here to help. Because we specialize in in-home care, we have a strong leaning toward individualized care. It’s what we have done for years, and it’s what we train all of our caregivers to focus on. Every person that we work with is unique–just like every person in your family has their own personality, wants, needs, and goals. We focus on the individual because every person we work with is an individual. Not only does this mindset help us to give everyone we work with the best care, it helps them to feel like they are being acknowledged for who they are.
If this sounds like something that can be helpful for your family, get in touch with us. One of our caregivers would be happy to help walk you through the process of getting started at no charge to you. There’s no obligation on your end, either. If Paradise In-Home Care can help meet your needs, then great! If not, we will be more than happy to help you find the perfect care service for your family.
