We all know that exercise is supposed to be good for us, right? But do you know how good it really can be? Not many people really do. But one recent study made a bold assertion. The conclusion was that high levels of exercise equalled about nine years less aging when it came to our body’s cells. That’s right. If you exercise on a regular basis, your body will look and act like it is actually nine years younger than it really is.
If this is truly the case, there are some big implications when it comes to the health of our elderly loved ones and senior care in general. Seniors that have a history of exercise are less likely to be in need of care simply because their bodies are younger and more fit at the cellular level. This certainly isn’t a guarantee that people who exercise more will have better lives as senior citizens, but generally speaking, it should do a lot to cut down on an early need for in-home care, assisted living, or nursing homes. While we are a senior care service, we also know that the best type of care is preventative care. Living a healthy life will go a long way toward helping you to live a better life.
The study saw that positive results were at their best for women when they exercised 30 minutes per day, five days per week. For men, that number stood at 40 minutes per day, five days per week. Unfortunately, to see a noticeable physical difference in the aging process, just a little exercise here and there isn’t enough. Still, that doesn’t mean that there are not benefits to that, too.
The aging process is unavoidable, no matter how well we take care of ourselves. But there are simple things that we can do to help slow it down. Exercise is one of them. Other things, like stopping smoking, eating healthier, staying away from alcohol, and drinking more water, also have various benefits. Senior care is an area where there is going to be a huge need in the coming years, and doing what we can to help our loved ones and ourselves stay healthy and minimize the need for care is an important first step toward giving the people we love the highest quality of life possible. We can’t prevent ourselves from getting older, but we can make sure that we enter our elder years in the best health possible, putting the odds of having a great retirement in our favor. And by encouraging healthy habits in our loved ones, like exercise, we can help them to do the same.
Care will eventually be needed, though. And when it is, be sure that you have done your research to ensure that the care that a family member gets is the best care possible for their particular set of needs.
