What seems like a tiny act of kindness to one individual can be a huge blessing to those that are on the receiving end of things. This is exactly what the tech company Lenovo recently did. They donated several tablets to senior citizens in North Carolina so that they could remain in touch with their families and loved ones throughout the pandemic and over the holiday season. This was a very small thing for the company to do, but it had a tremendous impact on the people that received these tablets and their family members.
The Lenovo Foundation, a charitable organization associated with the technology company, recently donated 100 tablets to different senior care facilities in order to help seniors stay in better touch with their friends and family.
The pandemic has changed how we all live. We have had to learn to live more solitary lives, social distancing from the people that we care about. This is hard enough, but then take into account the fact that this is REALLY hard over the holiday season. There are a lot of people out there that are hurting right now, and the distance makes it even harder. It’s no secret that seniors have been hit the hardest in all aspects of the pandemic, and this is just another area where their lives are being negatively impacted. Better communication with family and friends can have a big impact on mental health and happiness.
Technology can’t replace in person communication, but it can help to alleviate some of the difficulties of isolation that have been brought to light because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Although the average individual will not have a life threatening illness because of the virus, the mental health impact has taken a severe toll on people of all ages all across the country. This has been far more devastating for the average person than the illness itself has been. And seniors are no different. Although this might not seem like a huge thing, getting technology into more people’s hands so that they can safely speak with and virtually be with the people that they care about can be a real blessing.
Being with family is important. People are not meant to be alone, and feelings of depression can easily sink in if you’re not able to share the holidays with people that you love. This can be a tough time of year for people as a result.
But for a lot of seniors, this feeling never quite goes away. Being alone without companionship is a really big issue for so many people. Finding good senior care can help to fight this, though. That’s one of the reasons why we are so passionate about in-home senior care. It keeps seniors where they want to be, and allows them to have more companionship because of their caregiver. We’ve seen some beautiful friendships grow out of this part of senior care. It truly has been amazing to be a part of this with so many families across the Bay Area.
