During a normal year, this is the season where we are focused on giving back to those around us. Between Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah, and New Year, we tend to focus more on the people and things that we are grateful for, and do our best to show that appreciation.
But 2020 has been anything but normal. This makes the need to show our gratitude that much more important. We are all dealing with our own struggles right now. Health, financial security, anxiety, and more have all come to the front of our minds. We are all dealing with the pandemic in our own way, we’ve all been impacted by this in a variety of ways. And we’ve all been hurt by this to some degree. But either way, we can still reach out to express our thanks to those around us.
What’s one way that you can do this to the people that have helped your family?
It’s estimated that as many as 48 million Americans provide care for an older loved one. Family care is perhaps the most widely used type of senior care out there, and it goes largely unthanked. These are family members, friends, neighbors, and other unpaid volunteers that step up to provide a service to people that they care about. It is a hard job, and often a really hard one. But that doesn’t mean that it isn’t important.
We all show our love and gratitude to the people that we care about in different ways. Some people celebrate Christmas with family, some don’t celebrate at all. And however you want to show the people around you that you love them is perfectly fine. Just remember that this year, some people are in need of a lot more reminding that they are valuable to you. This has been a hard several months, and it is weighing heavily on some. Don’t forget to go out of your way to let those people that you care about know just how special they are to you.
What you do on a daily basis is hard. Caring for an older loved one is not easy, even in the best of times. We are certainly not experiencing that right now. Caring for a loved one during COVID has been incredibly difficult. So, while it’s important to let the elderly folk in your life know how much you mean to them this holiday season, it’s also important to let the others that are involved in helping your family do the same. That might be a spouse, another family member, or a friend. It might be a community volunteer, or even a professional. Either way, these people work hard to help your family. They might not expect the thankfulness and gratitude that you show, but they will certainly appreciate that you thought of them and recognized how hard they work.
And, from all of us here at Paradise In-Home Care, we want to say thank you! Without our readers, our clients, and those that help us, we wouldn’t be able to be of help to others. We appreciate every one of you.
