The phrase “care economy” is an odd one, but it’s likely one that you are going to hear more and more of in the coming months.
That’s because the concept of a care economy is a key component of the infrastructure plan that President Biden has proposed. Part of this is the definition of what infrastructure actually is. We have long thought of infrastructure as consisting of things like roads, bridges, and so on. But reimagining how these things all work together is important, and it’s been one of the key areas of focus that we have come to see as problematic within the U.S. economy over the past decades. Things like child care and senior care have become increasingly expensive, leading lower and middle class families to try and provide these things on their own. Ultimately, this pulls people out of the workforce. When there are fewer people working, things like road and bridges–traditional parts of infrastructure–become more and more difficult to keep up with.
Understanding that care, jobs, and the economy are all intricately tied together is important. President Biden’s plan may help to do that, or it might not. This remains to be seen. But at the very least, it raises a very important concern: we can’t give our families and communities the best that we have to offer if we are being pulled in too many different directions.
This is not a politically divisive stance. It is an observation There are very real issues going on in our society, and a care economy has been lacking over the last several decades. It has helped to exacerbate a lot of the issues that we have seen in the senior care industry as a whole. The political side of this is the approach to fixing it. Whether you’re a Republican or a Democrat will largely impact the methods that you would employ to help fix the lack of access to good care that many families have. But something is needed. Whether it’s Biden’s plan or something else, a solution is needed in order to give seniors, their families, and our society as a whole the help and support that they need to care for the people that they love.
It’s not easy, but it’s possible.
How can we help you? Paradise In-Home Care is a unique care service because we strive hard to think about how care impacts the family as a whole. We know that it’s not just your mom or dad that we are helping when we come into the house, but rather everyone connected to that individual. Yes, their needs and goals are at the center of what we do. But there’s so much more to it than this. Families are connected in complicated ways, and what we do to help one person reverberates throughout the entire family structure.
