Elder abuse is far more prevalent than most people might think. Many experts believe that as many as 75 percent of all cases of abuse go unreported. Some think it might even be more than that. Unfortunately, abuse is far more widespread than it ever should be.
Abuse of any sort is a crime. But the fact of the matter is that it happens a lot more often than what is reported. People that we know in our towns and communities deal with this on a daily basis, but only a small fraction of instances of abuse are reported to officials. Unfortunately, a lot of cases are never known. They’re never reported or followed up on. And because the elderly are often vulnerable, they are targeted more than other populations.
Awareness is just a start. Putting an end to abuse is what’s important.
Adult Protective Services are present in every county in the U.S. and are here to help seniors (and other adults) stay safe and healthy. If you think that there is an adult in your life that is being abused, giving them a call might be a good idea. These calls are anonymous and can make a world of difference for those that are involved. Unfortunately, this is a service that is overburdened at this time. COVID has really exposed a lot of areas of need in our communities and elder abuse is no different. Still, this can often be a lifesaving phone call, it it is a necessary one.
We want the best for your family. That’s hard to do as a company, though. After all, you and your family know each other far better than any outsider ever will. You know what your family needs and you know what their goals are. You know about attitudes toward care and things that we can only guess about. This is precisely why we want to work in partnership with families, not as a distant, faceless company providing an abstract service.
In-home care helps us to accomplish that goal. Rather than having your loved one move out of their home and into a care facility, in-home care comes to you, providing assistance without the hassle of relocation. Knowing that those who are helping provide care have been trained to prevent any sort of abuse from happening can make things even better.
If you have questions, we are here to answer them. Whether you’re looking for a caregiver to work alongside your family, or you just have a few quick questions, someone from our team would be happy to speak more with you. We offer free consultations if you have more in depth questions regarding care–and they come with no obligation on your part.
Senior care can be difficult to tread, especially if you’re brand new to it. This is why it’s so important to have a team on your side that you know and trust.
This is where we can help. We ensure that all of our caregivers have the skills that they need not only to help out your loved one, but also so that they can provide care in a way that avoids any risk of abuse or neglect. Senior care shouldn’t be scary–it should be something that takes a load off of your shoulders. So if you have questions or concerns regarding care, please get in touch. We’re here for you.
