The COVID-19 pandemic has made a lot of people wary of the senior care system. Nursing homes were hit hard in the early stages of the pandemic, and tens of thousands of people passed away as a result of this. There have been calls for change to occur, and some people are trying to make this easier to happen. There’s even a bill currently in the works designed to help make things like high quality senior care more easily accessible.
But as you most likely already know, change usually happens very slowly. That’s not good enough when it comes to keeping the people that you care about safe. That’s why it’s important to know what you can do to help make these changes on a small scale and help the people in your family that need help. What can you do to protect them and ensure that senior care is safe, of a high quality, and still affordable? In other words, what can YOU do–RIGHT NOW–to help make changes in the senior care system that will have a positive impact on the people that you love?
First, you can take control of your care. That’s what the changes that we see happening in senior care centers throughout the world, including the one I just mentioned in Canada. People are making changes that give the individuals impacted by care more control over what they receive, who is providing it, and what it looks like in practice. This might mean decentralizing stakeholders in care homes like what’s happening in Canada, but it doesn’t have to look like this. It can be customized to meet an individual’s unique set of needs. After all, your mom is a lot different than your neighbor’s. There are two totally different situations between these two people, and care will necessarily look different as a result of this.
You can educate yourself and those around you about care. Be aware of what types of care will be better suited to meet loved ones’ needs.
Ultimately, you know the people that you love better than anyone else does. Doctors and other professionals may be necessary to consult with, but that doesn’t mean that your knowledge is not important. Your input might be the difference between adequate care and excellent, empowering care.
We would be honored to partner with you on this. In-home care is an invaluable service, allowing a loved one to get the professional level of help that they need, but all without sacrificing the comfort of home. They can stay with the people they love, in the place that they want to be. Instead of relocating and starting all over, in-home care allows people to live life on their terms even if they have advanced needs that require help.
Have questions? We’re here for you. Give us a call to get started. We can either answer your questions quickly over the phone or set up a more in depth consultation. Either way, it’s completely free and comes with no obligation. Our goal is to get your family the help and care that you need, where you want it.
