As the population of the U.S. changes and ages, many companies, both private and public, are renewing their interest and development of silver tech.
If you’ve never heard the term “silver tech” you’re not alone. However, you’re probably already familiar with what it is. Silver tech is any technology or technological product that is geared towards helping the elderly.
This is a really big category of products. Silver tech includes things directly pertaining to senior care, such as online resources to help connect to care, doctors, and more, but it also pertains to smart home technology, financial products, communication tools, and more. In short, silver tech is designed to help seniors go about their daily life with more ease. Whether it’s just hanging out around the house or preparing to participate in a hobby or go on a trip, new technology can help some seniors have an easier time.
Smart homes are perhaps one of the biggest areas where silver tech has flourished. Voice controlled thermostats, technology that can detect drips and leaks, and even smart rugs and beds that can determine whether someone has fallen or cannot get out of bed have made life not just easier, but safer too.
Still, there’s a lot of room for error in these products. Many of these products are meant to replace human oversight, but even the greatest tech can’t replace a human touch. This goes for simple observation, but perhaps even more importantly, it can’t account for companionship. No technology can replace time spent with a loved one, talking and enjoying one another.
For some, the new onslaught of products is leading to information overload. However, I think it’s important that I say this right here: you don’t need every product out there to provide a positive experience for your older loved ones. Some products are great for some people, some are completely unnecessary. Some products are not very helpful at all.
However, it’s still beneficial for companies to pursue a high quality product. There are more seniors in the U.S. than ever before, and there’s a lot of money for companies to make. Competition to create quality products is a good thing as it ensures that the people we care about are having the products that they need developed and improved upon.
There’s a lot to take into consideration when you’re looking at senior care for a loved one. Technology might be one of the things that you’re looking at. This blog post isn’t meant to endorse any product or company, but rather to make you more aware of what’s out there and how it might be helpful for you.
